A waterside capital of striking modern buildings, museums and fjord views.
Oslo sits at the head of the Oslofjord, surrounded by forested hills. On the waterfront, you can walk up the sloping marble roof of the Opera House for views over the city and the fjord.
The MUNCH museum holds a large collection of Edvard Munch's work, including versions of The Scream, and the Vigeland sculpture park in Frogner Park displays more than 200 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland. Akershus Fortress has guarded the harbour since around 1300.
In summer, ferries hop between the islands of the inner fjord, and in winter the Holmenkollen ski jump and forest trails are a short metro ride away.
